This Tuesday the Judiciary Committee will hear my legislation dealing with national security and technology issues. The background to this legislation includes The U.S. House of Representatives House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence has presented an investigative report that identifies the Chinese telecommunications companies Huawei and ZTE as posing issues of national security. That is, highly sensitive, confidential and proprietary information is being leaked to Communist China. My resolution does three things: First, it calls on the City to ensure that there are no contracts that involve components of these companies in our telecommunication systems. Second, it requires that the city identify whether or not a future piggyback contracts do not take place if one of these companies is involved. Third, it calls on the city to lobby the state to ensure that none of these companies get contracts with the state. Only the third part of the resolution is up for a vote this coming Tuesday.
