Today the City’s Public Safety Committee passed my proposed ordinance that would allow NEV buses that hold up to 14 passengers ride city streets. If the full council approves this proposed ordinance on July 22nd we may see one of these 100% electric buses on city streets by late summer. For $1.00 riders may use the bus the entire day. The NEVs are designed to complement the existing transit system. They are environmentally friendly vehicles that emit no greenhouse gases. They reduce our reliance on upon the importation of foreign fossil fuels thereby helping our economy.
