I attempted to preserve the five plus acres at 2372 S Logan Ave (between Bay, Lincoln, Logan and Conway) as parkland. As people may know that effort was blocked by the city as they wanted to expand the tax base. Since that time I have been working to reach a compromise and to preserve as much of that green space as possible.
We have now reached that compromise. The compromise is that we get to keep three acres as parkland and the remaining land will have 14 single family homes built along the Logan Avenue side. So we are keeping the density of this parcel of land as small as possible. And we are preserving three acres of open space. To that end, we will have a planning process with the neighbors and residents to determine what that three acres will ultimately look like. For example, some people want a location for a skateboard park and some want some land for futsal and/or soccer. Then there are those that just want as much open land as possible with nothing on there but some benches and trees. All options are on the table and it will be up to you to choose.
What is exciting about this is that from an urban planning perspective we have a contiguous row of quality of life amenities along Bay Street from Russell to Lincoln. From the south end we have the Beulah Brinton Center and the softball fields, basketball, volleyball and tot lot. Now we will have the three open acres for other quality of life enhancements. And then to the north there is the very popular dog park that we installed a few years ago.
